"Facebook has just turned on Chat in a "few networks" (including mine) this morning and I think it's a great implementation. While Facebook hasn't announced an official rollout schedule, Chat will be gradually rolling out over the coming days."
Clearly a page taken from Google's book, but a single, critical question remains: does it have and API or follow any standards? Google's GMail-integrated chat is based on the open Jabber protocol; so far it doesn't appear that you can access Facebook chat through any third party chat clients. Perhaps this a move to keep people logged into Facebook longer.
I've never been a fan of online chat apps (Pidgin is my favorite by far), but it's not that bad. I just wish they'd add Jabber.
